Mac OS X: Clear text formatting when copying from websites

Sometimes copying from websites leaves your text with strange formatting, links, unwanted graphics and spacing when you paste it into Microsoft Word or to an email message.  One way of clearing this up is using the Services menu, if your source application supports this.

Arranging Icons on the Mac Desktop

Let's say you frequently drag icons around on your desktop and often find that they are all jumbled together, icons overlapping one another. To better organize the icons on your desktop, follow one of the two options below:

Using the Path Bar in Mac OS X

When browsing through your files and folders in Finder, it is easy to get lost and not know where you are or what directory you are browsing.  If you have several folders of the same name in different locations on your Mac, it is quite confusing when you do not know the path of the folder you are in.  With the path bar enabled, you will always know where the file or folder selected is located.

Using Mac's built-in dictionary

Did you know that Mac has a very handy built-in dictionary?

Press and hold Apple+Control+D over any word in a cocoa application and up pops a Dictionary/Thesaurus.  You can even move your mouse over any other word on the page and it will keep throwing out definitions. Sorry to say that this trick only works on cocoa applications in Mac OS X such as the Address Book, Calculator, Chess, iCal, iChat, iTunes, Mail, Preview, QuickTime, Safari, Stickies and TextEdit.

The ABCs of Mac Keyboard Shortcuts

The mouse, one of the greatest advances in computing history, provides you with an intuitive point-and-click method for using your computer. Depending on the type of work you're doing; however, sometimes using a mouse actually slows you down.  If you are a good typist, taking your hands away from the keyboard to move the mouse can use up a few seconds.  Over the course of a full day, you could save several minutes by using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse.
