How to forward an email message as an attachment

With the proliferation of SPAM and phishing emails, you sometimes need to be able to send a copy of an email in its original form. The instructions below explain how to do that for some of the most popular email clients used by ITG clients. These instructions will not work on all versions of the applications. If these instructions do not work, call your helpdesk for assistance.

 

Microsoft Outlook Client on Windows

  1. Locate the message you wish to forward, and either highlight it in the reading pane by clicking once, or open it in its own window by double clicking.
  2. In the ribbon controls at the top, locate the “Home” tab (called the  “Message” tab if you’ve opened the email in its own window).
  3. Locate the “Respond” section in the ribbon, which is where options for Reply, Reply All, Forward, etc., should appear.
  4. Select the “More” dropdown option, and select the Forward as Attachment option.
  5. Enter addressees in the To:Cc: or Bcc: fields.
  6. If you wish, add a few lines of new text at the top so that the recipient knows why you decided to forward it.
  7. Send.

 

Zimbra Web Mail

  1. Open the message to be forwarded.
  2. On the toolbar, click Forward.  A compose window opens. 
  3. Enter addressees in the To:Cc: or Bcc: fields.
  4. Add a few lines of new text at the top so that the recipient knows why you decided to forward it.
  5. On the toolbar, click the "Options" button and select "Include Original as Attachment"
  6. Send.

 

Apple Mail

  1. Open the message to be forwarded.
  2. Select from the top menu, Message->Forward as Attachment
  3. Enter addressees in the To:Cc: or Bcc: fields.
  4. If you wish, add a few lines of new text at the top so that the recipient knows why you decided to forward it.
  5. Send

 

Gmail

  1. From the list of emails, click the square next to the message you wish to forward as an attachment to select it.
  2. From the toolbar with the icons click the icon of three vertical dots and select "Forward as attachment" from the menu.
  3. Enter addressees in the To:Cc: or Bcc: fields.
  4. If you wish, add a few lines of new text at the top so that the recipient knows why you decided to forward it.
  5. Send

 

Microsoft Outlook Client on OSX

  1. Locate the message you wish to forward, and highlight it in the reading pane.
  2. On the ribbon, locate the section that contains buttons for reply, reply all, forward etc.
  3. Locate and click the icon that says “Attachment” next to an icon of a paperclip on a letter. (might be a paperclip with an arrow)
  4. Enter addressees in the To:Cc: or Bcc: fields.
  5. If you wish, add a few lines of new text at the top so that the recipient knows why you decided to forward it.
  6. Send
